FOLDS FAMILY GENEALOGY
At this site you will find many links to Genealogy Resources.  There is not a single source when searching for your ancestors. Record keeping and Census records may or may not hold current spellings of your surname. During my research I noticed many signatures were signed with a X. The correct spelling of surnames depended on someone who could read and write. Immigrants also changed their surnames to the type of work they did. Others changed the spelling of their surnames for unknown reasons, but I suspect it was due to the inability to read and write. In my search, I discovered the surname of Chapelle is actually Kapelle in Germany. Even with these obstacles to over come, you will discover that searching for your ancestors is both fun and rewarding.

The Historical Research Center has an interesting document  that details how last names became what they are today. It is impossible to trace the current family name  back to Europe because of the methods used to determine the surname of a child.

I hope you find the resources listed at this site helpful in your search for your ancestors. I am always searching for new links to Genealogy Resources. If you find a Genealogy Resource not listed at this site, or want to link to your home page, please email me and I will be glad to add it.
